.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 256 AM EDT Sun Oct 6 2024
At a glance:
-Period of calm weather continues.
-Max temperatures will run between 5 and 10 degrees above normal.
Fall may be on it`s way but summer isn`t going down without a fight.
Temperatures this afternoon and tomorrow will rise into the mid
80s with overnight lows in the 60s. Cloud coverage in the southern
parts of the CWA will help to moderate temperatures but it should
be an overall pleasant day for most of the area.
Winds will start off light this morning, before picking up out of
the east at 5 to 10 mph. Otherwise, there isn`t much to say other
than enjoy the pleasant weather.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through Saturday)
Issued at 256 AM EDT Sun Oct 6 2024
The upper level flow pattern at the beginning of the long term
period will be characterized by a closed upper low over southeast
Canada and a broad ridge over the central and western CONUS. Several
weak shortwaves rotating around the periphery of the upper low will
help nudge a cold front through the forecast area. As the period
picks up on Monday night, a cold front will be advancing through
north Georgia and will continue through the forecast area through
the overnight hours. Much of north and central Georgia will be
underneath a northwesterly flow regime behind the front and to the
west of the aforementioned ridge for much of the next week, which
will usher in noticeably cooler and drier conditions. On Tuesday,
high temperatures will be in the upper 70s in north Georgia and low
80s in central Georgia, then solidly in the 70s through the
remainder of the week. The influence of strong surface high pressure
associated with the ridge is expected to inhibit rain chances across
the majority of the area. As the airmass continues to dry out, low
temperatures will decrease by a few degrees each morning. Morning
lows will range from the low 50s in far north Georgia to around 60
in south-central Georgia by Wednesday morning. By Friday, lows will
be in the mid 40s to low 50s areawide - ideal sweater/flannel/hoodie
weather.
Conditions will be much more tumultuous to our south in the Gulf of
Mexico. Tropical Storm Milton will need to be monitored as it tracks
eastward. Any changes in the surface level flow that could steer
Milton further to the north could allow for some intrusion of
tropical moisture into the southern portion of the area. At this
time, the strong surface high is expected to block the northward
advance of Milton and provide a barrier between tropical rainfall on
the northern fringes of of the system and our southern tier.
